Microsoft watcher WalkingCat revealed Remix 3D will be shutdown next year. This report was confirmed by Microsoft’s own Rudy Hyun. The company has since followed with a banner on Remix3D.com that schedules the closure of the service for January 10, 2020. Users are told in the notice to download and save their existing content because all content will be deleted when Remix 3D is shuttered. That means users will no longer be able to use the repository of 3D objects. As mentioned, while Paint 3D is a fantastic tool with rich features on paper, users have not responded to it. A lack of user support means Remix heading into the sunset is hardly a surprise. It would be a little bit more of an eyebrow raiser for Paint 3D to be closed, but it is an obvious eventuality for the service.
Google Poly
Shortly after Paint 3D and Remix were launched, Google announced its Poly service. It also allows users to use 3D objects and even works with Remix 3D and Paint 3D. By leveraging Google VR, the 3D objects can be used in a virtual space through a headset. “Poly lets you quickly find 3D objects and scenes for use in your apps, and it was built from the ground up with AR and VR development in mind,” Google says in a blog post.
