Today, the company announced privacy settings coming to Windows 10 with the FCU. These settings will focus on both consumer and commercial customers. Microsoft says the new features will enhance protection for users and give them more control. For consumers, Windows 10 will give users the ability to access privacy information during the setup process. First, the Microsoft Privacy Statement will now be visible during setup. Second, users can jump directly to settings such as location, speech recognition, diagnostics, tailored experiences, and ads. “We want you to have all the information about your privacy setting options readily available so that you can make an informed decision about your privacy and how your data is used.” Additionally, Microsoft will also introduce the ability to set application controls beyond location. The company says that this is part of its desire to give customers more transparency. Granting permission to apps for location data is a common practise, but Microsoft will expand this to other permissions. For example, apps will request access for camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, and others.
For Enterprise
Another new feature, for enterprise customers, is a Windows Analytics setting. This gives users more control over shared data. Administrators can lower IT costs by using Windows Diagnostics to provide insights for customers: “It is a fast-growing Microsoft service – providing data-driven insights that reduce the cost of deploying, servicing, and supporting Windows 10.
